7) What do you think this play reveals about our need for freedom? About the power of love? About good and evil?

I think that this play reveals that our need for freedom is very desperate. Without freedom, we are lost and it causes us to lose hope in ourselves and we also lose our identity from it. If we are not allowed to do things, things that we like, then we are not able to express ourselves very well. But in the play, Anne is not allowed to certain things that she longs for because of the holocuast so she expresses herself through her diary and this keeps her together. This play reveals that with love, you can overcome things and with this love, you can do anything. The love that is shown in the play are from Mr. Kraler and Miep. They show their love by protecting the Franks, Mr. Dussell, and the Van Daans and support them throughout the Holocaust. Knowing the consequences and danger that is ahead of them, they believed in themselves and had the courage to stand up and help the families hiding in the Secret Annex. The play shows that nothing good comes out of the evil. Hitler and the Natzi's were evil to discriminate people like that and now they are just people that have hatred towards them. But the play also shows that love comes out of the good. For example, again the love that Mr. Kraler and Miep has given to the families that they helped survive. In the end, they were considered heroes to the families and the outcome of their hardwork was good. It was like getting a reward. The theme of this play (Prejudice) relates to the same theme of a book called, "The Red Scaf Girl." There is a revolution in China where people are being discrimanated because of their family background and the class status that they were in. They were being persecuated just like the Jews were. And the main character is like Anne in many ways. She is basically under the same situation as Anne was and this brings to conclusion that prejudice is occuring all around the world.

6) Why are ther so many books, movies, documentaries, etc. about the Holocaust? Why do we keep retelling this story?

I think that there are so many books, movies, documentaries, etc. about the Holocaust because this event has made a huge impact on many of the present Jews and even their history. All of this information is available so that people nationwide know what the Jews had gone through and all the hardships that they faced. With all this information, people can understand the situation that the Jews were in. It is here for us to learn about it and understand the prejudice that is going on around the world. We keep retelling this story because it has been a very significant event that happened that has been recorded into the Jews' history. We are retold this story so that we know what kinds of challenges the Jews faced everyday and also to provide more information about it. With this knowledge, it makes me regret complaining about things when other people in the world were in more harsh situations. This makes me feel so thankful for how blessed me and my community are to live in a society like we do today.

5.a) Act 1, Scenes 1-3: Explain what you think statement means. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

Statement: "But always remember this, Anneke. There are no walls, there are no bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind."

I think that this statement means that nothing can really stop you from your imaginations, opinions, and feelings. Whatever someone says, does, etc., they can't control your mind. No one. Although, they can physically threathen, abuse, repress, you, they can't control your mind. This statement really connects to Anne because she was physically controlled by her surroundings/environment which is the Secret Annex. She was cramped into a small space without much freedom, but she still expressed herself through her diary, talking about all her feelings, thoughts, and opinions during the Holocaust. She shows what she feels and the diary is the only thing that expresses herself. Well, I would have to say that I agree with this statement because no one can really control your mind.

5.m) Act 1, Scenes 1-3: If you could interview survivors of the Holocaust, what would you ask them?

Some questions I would like to ask the survivors would be:
1) How did you survive?
2) If you were at a concentration camp, what was it like?
3) Why do you think the Nazi's were so against the Jews?
4) What did it feel like wearing the Star of David around the Nazi's?
5) How were you treated?
6) Were you separated from your children (if you had any) or family? ETC............................

5.a) Act 1: What do you think would be the hardest part of life in the Secret Annex? Explain.

The fear of discovery, the need to keep silent for hours at a time, the sharing of cramped quarters with strangers, or some other aspect?

I think that the hardest part of life for me in the Secret Annex would be the need to keep silent for hours at a time because just freezing there and not moving is like impossible for me. I don't think that I can stay still for hours, but with the fear that I have, I would do my best to stay still. I can't understand how the people like Anne that went into hiding could be still for a long period of time. It would've have been so hard and also boring because they could do nothing, but be still. Well, I think that they were able to do this because of the fear that they had that they would be found out.

4.a) Foreshadowing: Why does Mr. Frank break down when he sees the glove?

Mr. Frank breaks down when he sees the glove because it reminds him of the past and all of the memories he had in the secret annex. I guess that the glove resembled something to him that made him emotionally hurt. From my perspective, the white glove was probably a memory of his family. Since the white glove was a woman's, it probably reminded him of his wife and his 2 daughters. H eprobably went back to all the times in the secret annex. So the white glove is basically like a time machine that takes him back to the time of the Holocaust where he and his family and friends have spent their time together, hiding in the secret annex. The white glove connects with many of his memories which caused him to break down.

Whatdo you think the play's theme(s) is/are?

Well, I think that the play's theme is based upon prejudice. Prejudice effects this play becuase Anne and her family are forced to go into hiding because of the dicrimination that they recieved from the Germans. Her family is living a secret life and comparing this to others, many people were under the same situation. Not only were they forced into hiding, but they also lived in fear of being caught one day. So.... from my perspective, the theme of this play is prejudice because this is a theme that keeps on reoccuring throughout the play and is the reason of this whole play.
